Pati Deuter grew up in Los Alamos, New Mexico, located in the mountains just above Santa Fe.  The Spirit of the Southwest is reflected in her works.  Pati owned and operated a gallery in Mesilla New Mexico and another in Cedaredge Colorado.  She moved to Ree Heights South Dakota with her husband Jim in 1997, where they both maintain working studios.

Pati defines her watercolors as visionary art.  She uses a combination of cubism and realism to create a unique style.  She says,” I have a whimsical disregard for what is expected and strive to surprise not only myself, but also the viewer with original ideas.

She has also been creating embossing for over 30 years.  First making an impression on a metal plate using an acid reduction process to create the Embossings.  Tools are used to file and define the plates to get the fine detail.  After the plate is made she moves to her etching press where the paper is laid over the plate and is then hand pulled through the press.  Each embossing is hand colored individually with vibrant watercolors.  Her work has evolved over the past few years as she has started beading into the paper, adding brass sequins, porcupine quills and her own interesting designed papers.
